Wirral Methodist Housing Association – Governance Review

Wirral Methodist Housing Association (WMHA) is a Merseyside-based provider of social housing and support services. WMHA owns and manages 900 properties that ranges from houses and flats to supported accommodation, sheltered accommodation and shared ownership.

Objective

To provide an external review of governance effectiveness.

What we did

DTP undertook a structured and proportionate review of WMHA’s governance arrangements through:

  • document review.
  • observation of key meetings.
  • discussions with executive and non-executive team members.
  • provision of a draft outcome report, followed by discussion with WMHA and presentation of the final report to the Board.

What we achieved

DTP evaluated WMHA’s compliance with the National Housing Federation Code of Governance 2020 and the Regulator of Social Housing’s Governance Standard. The review validated effective governance practice within the organisation and identified a number of proportionate recommendations to support continuous improvement. Our advice was tailored to WMHA’s size and scope, ensuring recommendations added value while remaining practical and achievable.

Following a period of Board changes we commissioned DTP to conduct a review of our governance arrangements. The scope was clear, and we provided a range of documents for review. The one-to-one meetings were thorough and insightful. The final report was detailed but gave real clarity on recommendations to improve as well as highlighting areas of good practice. Recommendations were meaningful and the board received a good level of assurance from the process. I felt this process was really well tailored to the organisation and DTP clearly understood our position in terms of regulatory requirements.
